Kent's work proceeded that of Samuel Hahnemann. He proved many new remedies not considered originally by Hahnemann, pioneered the use of very highly potencized homeopathic remedies, and in 1897 published his repertory, the well known Kent repertory, on which virtually all modern practise of homeopathy is based. Christian Friedrich Samuel Hahnemann, M.D. (10th April 1755 - 2nd July 1843), born in Meissen, Saxony [now Germany]. He was better known as Samuel Hahnemann, a Saxon physician who, beginning with an article he published in a German medical journal in 1796, founded homoeopathic medicine. ... Except for the repertorium, he is renowned also for his books Lectures on Materia Medica and Homeopathic Philosophy. His books are exceptional more for their strength rather then their length.

James Tyler Kent was born on March 31, 1849 at Woodhull, New York.
Kent met his second wife, Clara-Louise, a practicing physician and diagnosed her as having an incurable iatrogenic miasm of Lachesis due to too many repetitions of dose.
Kent is considered to have been a great homeopath; and his philosophy, homeopathic interpretations and influence have steadily continued to grow in popularity since his death.
