James White (1821, Palmyra, Maine - 1881) was a Millerite preacher and a founder of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in 1863 and also of Battle Creek College.


He established and became first editor of the Second Advent Review and Sabbath Herald, which became the general church paper of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.


He served several times as president of the fledgling General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists.

White had a two-hour vision in which she saw events in the great conflict between the forces of righteousness and the forces of evil, spanning the ages from the fall of Lucifer from heaven to the new earth.
James White was busily engaged not only in establishing the Pacific Press in Oakland but also in raising money to enlarge the Battle Creek Sanatorium and to build the Tabernacle in Battle Creek to house the large congregation there and to provide a place of meeting for large general church meetings.
White received a royalty on her literary productions, all of which she used in meeting the expense of her work, literary staff, supplies, etc., and in meeting such "initial expense" on her books as typesetting, platemaking, and illustrating, and in the missionary work of the church.

White's contributions to the denomination were rather notable, in 1849 he started the first Sabbatarian Adventist periodical entitled the "Present Truth," in 1855 he relocated the fledgling center of the movement to Battle Creek, Michigan, and in 1863 played a pivotal role in the formal organization of the denomination.
James White was born on August 4, 1821 in the township of Palmyra in Maine.
White was a powerful preacher and it is recorded that during the winter of 1843, 1000 people accepted the Millerite message due to his preaching.
