James "J.Y." Young is a member of the rock band Styx. He was born on the South Side of Chicago on November 14th, 1949 and began playing keyboard and piano at age five. He attended Calumet High in Chicago and learned clarinet and guitar during those years. J.Y. joined TW4 at the Illinois Institute of Technology, and that band later became the first incarnation of Styx. After the band's breakup in 1983, J.Y released a solo album, City Slicker. He was not in the reformation of the band when it recorded Edge of the Century, but, after two more solo album, he was invited back to record the live album Return to Paradise, and is still currently in the band.
