History

Jamnabai Narsee School founded on 17th January 1971, is established and managed, by the Narsee Monjee Educational Trust. It is a co-educational, English medium school with an emphasis on choosing a specific area of thrust, in the latter years of schooling, within one's overall education.


The education imparted aims at promoting the growth and integration of all the facets of the child's personality in an ambience of Indian Culture. The School is an 'Unaided Linguistic-Minority Institution', affiliated to the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations-New Delhi, and to International Baccalaureate Organisation, Geneva preparing students for the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) Examination at the end of the 10th grade and the International Baccalaureate Diploma (IBDP) at the end of the 12th. Facilities & Infrastructure

The School building has a unique architecture with three clusters of hexagonal class-rooms, each with a central foyer. It is constructed on a plot admeasuring 8,340 Sq.yards. The school is ideally located near the Jamnabai Narsee playground and the school compound has especially prepared courts for basketball, volleyball, throwball and handball to cater to the physical education programme of the school.


The building itsef has a total built-up area of 1,44,000 square feet and a carpet area of more than 1,17,000 square feet.


The building houses 72 classrooms each measuring 585 sq.ft. in area, for the students from nursery to Std.X. In addition to these, there are spacious rooms for academic activities such as the Technical Drawing Room, the Art Room, the Maths Laboratory, the Environmental Science room and rooms for Bharat Natyam, Kathak and folk dance, the sitar room, rooms for Indian and Western Music and a modern Computer Centre. The entire central area in the first floor is the arena for cultural activities. The well equipped Physics / Biology / Chemistry laboratories and the Science Activity Centre are on second floor. An air-conditioned audio-visual room of around 1200 sq.ft. area is situated on the third floor. The school hall with a mezzanine floor caters to the needs of an audience of 700.


The backbone of the school is its human resource - one hundred and seventy-five strong teaching faculty and support staff, and another hundred karamacharis (sweepers and menial workers). Three thousand nine hundred students eagerly enter the portals of the school every morning. Every year approximately two hundred and ninety canditates are prepared and sent up for the ICSE examinations. This number being the highest in Mumbai.


The physical plan of the hexagonal classroom creates a synergy that is conducive to an interactive play between the teacher and students. This makes for efficient growth and development in not just academic learning but the all-round development of an individual, living in a world increasingly dominated by information and communicative abilities.
