Jan Betker is a Canadian curler out of Regina, Saskatchewan. Betker, who played the third position on the team of the late Sandra Schmirler, has taken over the position of skip created by Schmirler’s death.


As part of the Schmirler team Betker won 3 Canadian curling championships in 1993, 1994, and 1997. As well the team also won 3 world championships in 1993, 1994, and 1997. In 1998 the team won the Gold Medal for curling at the Olympic Games.


At first Betker refused to skip the tame following the death of her long time skip Schmirler. However, in 2003 Betker took over as skip and took her team to the Canadian Championship. The team finished forth overall.

This may be Betker's eighth appearance at the Canadian women's curling championship, but it is only her second at skip.
Gudereit says the biggest change in Betker as skip is that she has learned to work her players' strengths into her strategy.

Saskatchewan's Jan Betker remains unbeaten through eight draws of the Tournament of Hearts at the Enmax Centre in Lethbridge, Alta.
Betker, a three-time national champion as third for the late Sandra Schmirler, improved to 5-0 in convincing style on Monday.
Betker bounced Suzanne Gaudet of Prince Edward Island 9-5 in the morning draw, then she trounced Ontario's Krista Scharf 10-1 in the afternoon.
