Janet stayed in the apartment for the duration of the series. She was portrayed as the stereotypical "brunette" of the clan (opposite Chrissy/Cindy/Terri's "blonde" characters). She was intelligent and feisty, and also somewhat strict. Jack and Larry's ploys and teasing never went too far with Janet, and she would outsmart them on nearly every attempt. Above and beyond all else, however, Janet was a deeply loyal friend, with the best interests of those she cared about at heart (despite occasional misunderstanding).

Jack sometimes had designs on Chrissy/Terri, and flirted with Janet less frequently. However, toward the end of the series, there was much speculation as to whether or not Jack and Janet would be wed. Eventually, she wed someone else (Phillip Dawson).
