After assassinating two of his brothers, Jani Beg took over the reign. He is known to have actively interfered in the affairs of Russian principalities and Lithuania. Grand Princes of Moscow Simeon Gordiy and Ivan II were under constant pressure from Jani Beg. In order to strengthen his power in the Horde, Jani Beg force Islam upon his subjects. During his reign, the Horde started showing signs of feudal division. In 1356, Jani Beg conducted a military campaign in Azerbaijan and conquered Tabriz, installing his own governor there. Soon after this, there was an uprising in Tabriz. As a result, the power was trasnferred to the Jelairid dynasty (offshoot of the Genghis dynasty), which had been hostile towards Jani Beg. There are a number of Khans named Jani Beg or something similar in the history the various descendant states of the empire of Genghis Khan.
Janybek (or Janibek, Zhanibek, Jani Beg) Khan was a co-leader of a new Kazakh khanate, following a successful rebellion against the Uzbek Khan Abulkhair in 1465 and 1466.
He led the splinter group along with Kerei (or Girei or Keray), who was his relative, also descended from the famous Urus Khan of the White Horde.
