Jaun Zuria ("The White Lord") is the mythical first Lord of Biscay. According to the legend, he was born from a Scottish princess that had been visited by god Sugaar in the village of Mundaka. The 15th century warlord Lope García de Salázar adapted a history from the Libro dos Linhagems by Pedro Alfonso, making Jaun Zuria a noble elected by the Biscayne people to lead them against a Leonese army in the mythical battle of Arrigorriaga. There is nothing historical in this legend, as the Lordship of Biscay was created by the Castilians after they conquered the territory to Navarre in 1200. Surely the legend was created by the members of this dynasty to justify their right to the title, creating the false story that Biscay had been independent and not just part of Navarre, as actually was the case. Irish/Basque Version as follows:Zaun Zuria,Prince of Erin.A young prince Lemor was out hunting with his Father the Clann chief and his brother Armin in the forests of the Emerald Isle (Ireland) in an accident an arrow from Lemor´s bow killed the Chief.Lemor was exiled to sea in a small boat with two other warriors.Washed up on shore in Mundaka the Basque King Lekobide heard of a noble Irishman and offered him santuary in the valley of Padura.Lemor fell in love with the Kings daughter Princess Luz.Later Euskadi(the Basque Country) was attacked by the Lonese King Ordono. The old King Lekobide asked the Irish prince Lemor MacMorna to lead his Basque army in defence of the Basque Kingdom where upon Lemor slew Ordono.The Irishman was given the respectful name Zuria (The White Lord) Jaun Zuria became the first lord of Bizkaia.
