Castellano has had a banner year thus far in 2004 and that could be paramount, considering Saratoga Race Course opens it doors for just two weeks from now on Wednesday, July 28th.
On July 5th, Castellano and Ghostzapper turned Belmont's Grade 2 Tom Fool into a race against the clock as the colt thrashed a strong group of sprinters by the length of the stretch.
Although Castellano will be represented in a bunch of Saratoga stakes, the 26-year-old may have a gigantic shot to win the first Grade 1 race of the meet, the Test with the three-year-old filly Feline Story.
ESPN.com - Breeders Cup 2004 - Castellano has a day to savor (394 words)
GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas -- Javier Castellano spent a long time trying to forget the first mount he was named to ride in the Breeders' Cup: the ill-fated Exogenous, who was scratched from the 2001 Distaff at Belmont Park after suffering a fatal injury when she flipped en route to the paddock before the race.
Castellano, who turned 27 last week, became Ghostzapper's regular rider when the colt returned from a six-month layoff to begin his 3-year-old campaign in June of 2003.
Castellano pointed to the sky in jubilation in tribute to his father after crossing the finish line with Ghostzapper.
