Encyclopedia > Jean Elliot

Jean Elliot (1727 - March 29, 1805) was a Scottish poet, daughter of Sir Gilbert Elliot of Minto.

She has a small niche in literature as the author of the beautiful ballad, The Flowers of the Forest, beginning, "I've heard the lilting at our yowe-milking." Another ballad with the same title beginning, "I've seen the smiling of fortune beguiling" was written by Alicia Rutherford.

Jean is 24 and was teaching in a performing arts school in Cork before entering the 'You're A Star' competition.
Jean admits that she wouldn't have been very good or adventurous with make-up but she did pick up a couple of tips when getting ready for the competition.
All these tips should be very useful to Jean as she has started to model a bit as well as singing, she can be seen in the new Arnotts magazine, out at the end of this month.
