Wadsworth became the wealthiest man in Connecticut at the end of the war.
JeremiahWadsworth (July 12, 1743 - Apr. 30, 1804), Revolutionary soldier and congressman, was born in Hartford, Conn., the son of the Rev. Daniel Wadsworth, pastor of the First Church of Christ, and Abigail Talcott, the daughter of Gov. Joseph Talcott [q.v].
Jeremiah was four years of age when his father died and he was placed in the charge of his uncle, Matthew Talcott, a ship-owner of Middletown.
Wadsworth married Polly Seymour, a native of New Hartford, and to this marriage were born six children, of whom the three eldest, James, Elisha S.
Wadsworth, died in Hartford, in the faith of the Congregational Church, and greatly honored by all classes.
Wadsworth was elected on the Republican ticket as a member of the Connecticut State Legislature from the Suffield district, and it is needless to add that he served his people ably and faithfully.
