Jerry Coffee (born 1935) in Modesto, California, is a Republican from Hawaii running for U.S. Senate. Coffee served in Vietnam where he was a P.O.W. for 7 years. His military decorations include the Silver Star, two awards of the Legion of Merit, the Distinguished Flying Cross, two Bronze Stars, the Air Medal, two Purple Hearts, and the Vietnam Service Medal with 13 stars. 1935 (MCMXXXV) was a common year starting on Tuesday (link will take you to calendar). ... In August 2006 Coffee was rushed to Shannon Hospital in San Angelo, Texas, and underwent triple heart bypass surgery. As a result, Coffee has suspended his senatorial campaign. It is yet unclear if Coffee will resume his campaign. According to Coffee's camapign site, he was released from the hospital in mid-August, but is incommunicado while he recovers.
