Jiang Nan (Chinese: 江南, Wade-Giles: Chiang nan) refers to the southern part of the lowest reaches of the Yangtze River, including the southern part of the Yangtze Delta. This region encompases the Shanghai Municipality, the southern part of Jiangsu Province, and the northern part of Zhejiang Province. Famous Jiang Nan cities include Hangzhou, Wuxi, Suzhou, Nanjing, and Shanghai. The Qing Dynasty Emperor Qianlong made many visits to Jiang Nan (乾隆下江南), which has been the popular subject of numerous Chinese operas and television dramas.

Jiangnan or Jiang Nan (Chinese: 江南; Pinyin: Jiāngnán; Wade-Giles: Chiang nan; sometimes spelled Kiang-nan) is a geographic area referring to lands immediately to the south of the lowest reaches of the Yangtze River, including the southern part of the Yangtze Delta.
The word Jiangnan is based on the Chinese name for the Yangtze, which is Chang Jiang (Simplified Chinese: 长江; Traditional Chinese: 長江; pinyin: cháng jiāng), nan means south.
The region encompasses the Shanghai Municipality, the southern part of Jiangsu Province, and the northern part of Zhejiang Province.
