Jiaozuo (焦作) is a prefecture-level city with about half a million inhabitants in Henan province of the People's Republic of China. Situated in northern Henan south of the Taihang Mountains and north of the Huang He, Jiaozuo is the seat of Jiaozuo Prefecture. It was established as a city in 1953. The city is noted for its blast furnaces and machine construction industries. It is linked via railway to the nearby cities of Luoyang, Xinxiang, and Jincheng in nearby Shanxi Province. Henan University of the Sciences has its seat at Jiaozuo. Jiaozuo is located in the northwest of Henan province, at the north foot of Taihang Mountain bordering to Shanxi province and to the south of Yellow River facing Luoyang and Zhengzhou across the river.
