In fact, Jill is the only original character remaining since the premiere of the series in 1973. It was originated by Brenda Dickson and she played the role for seven years. After she left in 1980, Bond Gideon played the role briefly, before Deborah Adair took over for three years. In 1983, Dickson reprised the role and played it until 1987, when she was replaced by Jess Walton, who continues to play the role to this day. Jill started off as a hairdresser who became friends with Katherine "Kay" Chancellor (Jeanne Cooper). Katherine, an alcoholic, was in an unhappy marriage to Phillip Chancellor II (Donnelly Rhodes).
