Jillian's was founded in 1985 as a billiards club located near Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts. The club was "named" for a woman named Gillian, who was then the fianceé of the establishment's founder. However, Jillian's took on a massive amount of debt as its expansion continued. In 2004, JCB Entertainment filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and sold 20 of their locations. Nine of these stores were sold to Dave & Buster's and re-opened under that name. D&B has refurbished part of these old Jillian's locations as the "Grand Sports Cafe." Another company, Jillian's Billiards, was established to run some of the remaining locations, including those at Universal CityWalk in California and Peabody Place in Memphis, Tennessee. Yet a third firm, Jillian's Management Company, owns the facility at Neonopolis in downtown Las Vegas, Nevada. At Jillian's you have 3 restaurants, a 20 lane bowling alley, 10 pool tables, cigar bar, an arcade (with all of those fancy-schmancy virtual reality games), ping pong tables, 3 huge bars and, soon to be added, The Love Shack (a dance bar).
On the weekends, Jillian's often has a live band playing either in the Sports bar or in the cigar bar.
Jillian's is a national chain (there will be close to 30 around the US by the end of 1999) so Franklin Mills was lucky to land this establishment.
