Jimeno Garces became chosen as successor of his kinsman Eneko Aritza as King of Pamplona in 851 or 852. He apparently was son of Garcia Jimenez, who probably was lord of Alava and possibly a Duke of Gascony/ Vasconia, during the time of King Inigo. His accession apparently united these two Basque territories. In 860 however, the united Pamplonese and Navarrese gave the Crown to the son of Aritza, Garcia's namesake Garcia II Iniguez. In 1025 the monks of Leyre were affiliated with the canons of Pamplona, and Juan II took the title of Bishop of Pamplona and Leyre, and signed in a number of decrees "Joannes, ecclesiæ Navarrensium rector".
In 1317 Jimeno III, Garcia being bishop, Pamplona, formerly a suffragan of Tarragona, became a suffragan of Saragossa.
