Sen. Menard's district includes Assonet, East Freetown, Lakeville, Fall River, Somerset, Swansea, and Rochester, Massachusetts. She is a graduate of Bridgewater State College, and completed her M. Ed. at Boston University, with advanced graduate study at Boston College. Prior to being elected to the Senate in 1999, she was a member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives from 1979 - 1999. Menard, who in addition to being a long-term legislator, is also the chairwoman of the state Democratic Party, a post from which she says she will now step down.
