He had to wear his now-infamous neck brace when he has hit by the move, 'Total Elimination' (Calf Kick & Sweep) by Perry Saturn & John Kronus (The Eliminators) at ECW Barely Legal in 1997, and has been wearing it ever since. In August 2001, Joel was invited by Paul Heyman to participate in MECW (Main Event Championship Wrestling) at the home of ECW in Philadelphia - the bingo hall known as Viking Hall.All the ECW alumnus were there to join Joel at their old-stomping ground including Amish Roadkill, New Jack and Sandman. Although the show was filmed for possible tv airing, the promotion itself never got off the ground.
