Johan Halvorsen (March 15, 1864–December 4, 1935) was a Norwegian composer, conductor and musician. Born in Drammen, he played the violin at an age of nine, and in 1883 he went to Stockholm for his music studies. He continued his studies in Leipzig, then went on to Aberdeen in 1887, to Helsinki in 1890, before he went on to Bergen in 1893, and finally to Oslo in 1899.
His best known compositions are the Bojarenes inntogsmarsj (March of the Boyars) and Bergensiana.

Anyway, it is certain that the meeting led to a new direction for Halvorsen as a composer: he saw the potential for music with a clearly national character.
Halvorsen was both conductor and soloist at the concert, and it was a success.
JohanHalvorsen's level of activity during this period could exhaust a lesser man. He composed music for over thirty plays, some of which was later arranged as orchestral suites.
