He attributed the German national wealth to population growth, foreign trade and the mining industry, with which he took over substantial elements of the theory of Adam Smith. He wrote the first systematic paper of financial science in Germany, whereby the influence of Christian Wolff and Samuel von Pufendorf is recognizable.
