He was born in Buttelstädt, was a choirboy in Weissenfels and studied under JohannKuhnau at the Thomasschule in Leipzig (he later founded a Collegium Musicum in the city).
Johann Friedrich Fasch was the father of Carl Friedrich Christian Fasch, also a musician.
