Encyclopedia > John Howard (soldier)

John Howard was an english major who led the occupation of the Pegasus over the river Orne. And the bridge was important because the american wanted to make a wall so the german couldnt push them out if the country again, so they had to control the bridges because otherwise the germans could just go over the bridges and push them out. But they couldn´t do that if American and canadian and british forces controlled.

Major John Howard (7113 words)
John Howard was a rarity amongst officers, in that he was not born amongst the higher classes but instead rose from humble beginnings.
Howard did not take kindly to the constant snubbing he receive and so, fearing that he would not be able to stand it otherwise, he asked Joy to move to Oxford so that he could have her support.
Howard was invited to be a consultant during the filming, and the role of himself in the film was taken by Richard Todd, who was a Lieutenant with the 7th Parachute Battalion on D-Day.
