John Jones McRae (January 10, 1815May 31, 1868) was the 21st governor of Mississippi, from 1854 to 1857. He was a Democrat. He also represented Mississippi in the United States Senate in 1851 and 1852.

JOHN J. MCRAE, the twenty-first governor of Mississippi, was born in Sneedsboro, North Carolina on January 10, 1815.
McRae entered politics in 1848, serving as a member of the Mississippi House of Representatives, a position from which he served as speaker in 1850.
McRae next secured the Democratic gubernatorial nomination, and was elected governor by a popular vote on November 7, 1853.

John Germany, then serving as Chief Judge of the Circuit Court for Hillsborough County, resigned from the bench and joined the Knight firm.
Knight, Jones, Whitaker and Germany combined with Holland, Bevis, Smith, Kibler and Hall to form Holland and Knight.
