Biography

Early years

Ospina, was born in Vancouver, Canada. Though his parents, both Colombian amateur singers, were brought together by music in a foreign land, he describes himself as a full-bred Colombian. He arrived to Medellín in 1991, with the experience of having played part in multiple school musicals. His interest for music grew influenced by the anglo and latin sounds of New York City streets (the city he called home for 5 years), taking in various musical genres such as Pop, Pop Rock, RnB, Hiphop, Rap, Jazz and Salsa. He studied Classical Singing at Antioquia University (la Universidad de Antioquia) and concurrently became the frontman for the noted pop rock band, El Sótano. Rising career

In 2003, Ospina decided to move to Bogotá, to try and “make it” in the big city. Once there, he caught the eye of the famed acting coach and teacher Victoria Hernández. Under her wing, he began studies in dramatic arts, obtaining the antagonist role on the 2004 television series, “Al Ritmo de tu Corazón” (Canal RCN) [1] transmitted in numerous countries around the world. Television has been an important part of John Paul’s music. Many of his songs, some of which were co-produced by Alejandro Restrepo (a.k.a. Patacón) and Camilo Soler, became part of the soundtrack for some of Colombia’s top series such as "Francisco el Matemático". In 2006, and topping over 20.000 contestants in Latin America throughout numerous auditions and televised tryouts, he became one of the top 10 finalists on Sony Entertainment Television Latin America’s first season of Latin American Idol [4], transmitted for more than 26 countries and over 300.000.000 viewers.
