John William Price was born November 2, 1897 in Lancaster, PA. His early life was spent at an orphanage on South Ann Street and on a farm in Washington Boro.
Dr. Price held a longtime position as a fireman for the City of Lancaster.
In recognition of his magnificent work, JohnPrice received an honorary Doctor of Science degree from Franklin and Marshall College in 1949.
John Giles Price (1808 - 1857), magistrate and penal administrator, was the only civilian to command the second convict settlement at Norfolk Island, being in charge from 6 August 1846 to 18 January 1853.
In 1839 Price was appointed muster master of convicts and stipendiary magistrate.
Price justified his actions by pointing out that he was responsible for the worst convicts, those of most dangerous and vicious character, who being "reckless of future consequences", mocked persuasion and advice, and laughed at sentences in irons.
