Possibly one of the greatest players ever to march the hallowed turf of Elland Road, Boundary Park and Hillsborough. During Leeds United's darkest days in the 1980's he was the undisputed star of what was at times a truly awful team. After a short spell at Nottingham Forest, where he only started one game John was the unsung hero of the revival of Sheffield Wednesday in the years following the downturn in fortunes experienced following the vacuum left in the city following the departure of Howard Wilkinson and subsequent instatement of Peter Eustace which resulted in poor performance of the first team. He then went on to become a "most excellent" player at Oldham Athletic where he continued to spray his inch perfect passes well into his late 30's.
