John Daniel Singleton (born January 6, 1968 in Los Angeles, California) is an American film director, producer, and screenwriter. His movies depict his native South Los Angeles with both its sweet and violent sides given equal consideration. Singleton attended the University of Southern California where his campus involvement included pledging and being initiated into the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated. He has received many distinctions, beginning during his time as an undergraduate screenwriter at the University of Southern California's School of Cinematic Arts, including nominations for Best Screenplay and Director for Boyz N the Hood. On August 23, 2007, Singleton was involved in an automobile accident, in which he struck and killed a pedestrian. He stayed on the scene until police arrived, was determined as not being under the influence of alcohol, and was questioned by police and released. No announcement has yet been made regarding possible charges against him.[1]
