Encyclopedia > John Tebbutt

John Tebbutt (May 25, 1834November 29, 1916) was an Australian astronomer.


He is credited with discovering the "Great Comet of 1861" (C/1861 J1).


His face appears on the reverse of the Australian 100-dollar banknote, and a crater on the Moon is named after him.
