John James Berry (1 June1926–23 September1994) was an Englishfootball player. Berry joined Manchester United from Birmingham City in 1951. He went on to help United win three league championships before injuries sustained in the Munich Air Disaster brought his footballing career to an end. He was agonizingly close to perishing due to injuries he received to his head in the crash, spending two months in a coma. When he woke up he was totally unaware of the plane crash, his injuries having caused a light form of amnesia. Berry was a natural right winger, with technique and pace as his strengths. He played 277 matches for Manchester United, bagging 44 goals along the way. He played regularly for the first six seasons, before losing his place in the start-line for youngster Ken Morgans. He later ran a sports business with his brother Peter, and he died on September 23rd, 1994 at the age of 68 after a short illness. His son Neil published a book in 2007 describing his years at Manchester United.
His son is a head teacher or principle for Brampton Manor Secondary school
Berry was born in St. Louis, Missouri and was one of the first members of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (1986).
Berry's musical influences were Nat King Cole, smooth singer and master pianist, Louis Jordan, very much Chuck's model, and Muddy Waters, singer and guitarist vital in the transformation of Delta blues into Chicago blues and the man who introduced Berry to Leonard Chess at Chess Records.
Berry was also the subject of attention in the 1990s for his alleged voyeurism of female guests in his home.
Johnnys first experience with music was in the church singing the hymns that a lot of people still hold dear.
In 2001 JohnnyBerry started to write songs and play country music.He started a band called Johnny B and the Honky Tonk Revival with Steve Cooley and Andy Brown.
It was during this time that Johnny met and married Elizabeth, his wife and is the proud father of son, Jack.
