Johnny Van Zant (born February 27, 1959 in Jacksonville, Florida) is an American Southern rock vocalist. He is the youngest brother of Lynyrd Skynyrd founder & vocalist Ronnie Van Zant, and .38 Special founder & vocalist Donnie Van Zant. Van Zant performed during the 1970's with his first band, The Austin Nickels Band. The band played on his debut solo album, No More Dirty Deals, released in 1980. He released three more solo albums between 1981 and 1985, before taking a break from the music business.


He became lead vocalist for the reunited Lynyrd Skynyrd in 1987, and continues to record and perform with them today. He released another solo album, Brickyard Road in 1990. He also records and performs with brother Donnie as Van Zant since 1998. Van Zant recorded two more albums for Polydor, Round Two and Last of the Wild Ones, in 1981 and 1982, before moving on to Geffen Records, where he recorded Van Zant in 1985.
Although some critics consider their tours and periodic recordings to be tantamount to musical grave-robbing, Van Zant once again proved himself a superb vocalist and the group acquitted itself exceptionally well.
Van Zant recorded Brickyard Road for Atlantic in 1990, but has otherwise involved himself deeply in Lynyrd Skynyrd during the 1990s.
