Jon Gries (born June 17, 1957 in Glendale, California) is an Americanactor, writer and director. He is known for playing Uncle Rico ("Back in '82") in the movie Napoleon Dynamite and is also known for his role as Laslo Hollyfeld in the 1985comedy film Real Genius. Gries also played a werewolf henchman in the horror/comedy sequel Fright Night II. His most notable television roles is Broots on the NBC series The Pretender and as Shawn on the FOX sitcom Martin during the first two seasons. He is the son of writer, direct, producer, and Emmy-winner Tom Gries. He is a vegetarian and while he chewed pieces, he refused to swallow the steaks his character Uncle Rico eats in Napoleon Dynamite. I have been crazy about JonGries since I first saw him as "Lazlo Hollyfield" in the movie "Real Genius." Obviously, I'm not the only one who loved that movie and all of the characters in it, because if you try to buy it...
I guess that's why Broots, the person that JonGries plays on "The Pretender," is one of my favorite characters on that show.
Gries brought all of Lazlo's best qualities to Broots and everytime I see him on the screen, my heart gets a little lighter.
