Joop van Oosterom is a Dutch billionare and chess enthusiast. For many years he has staged the yearly Melody Amber tournaments in Monaco, where world class grandmasters play rapid and blindfold games (with almost no public present). Van Oosterom was a strong correspondence chess player, but suffered a severe stroke some years ago, so that it is unclear how he could conclude the world correspondence chess championship so successfully. There are suspicions that grandmasters under his employment were doing the analysis for him.
