He started his senior career at Benfica B, at the II Division B, at the 1999/2000 season, were he stayed until 2001/2002, wen he had his debut for the Benfica main team. In 2002/03, he became the leading goalkeeper of Benfica, the first portuguese since Neno, in 1993/94. At the 2004/05, he faced the oposition of another talented goalkeeper, Quim, also a Portuguese international, but he regained the first spot the following season. An injury forced him to leave the pitch for six months.


He was the third goalkeeper for Portugal during Euro 2004, without ever playing for the "Selecção das Quinas", and the main 2004 Olympic Games.
