Josep Lluís Sert (1902 - 1983) was a CatalanSpanisharchitect. He was born in Barcelona with the complete name Josep Lluís Sert i López. As a child he showed already interest in the works of Gaudí and of his uncle, the painter Josep Maria Sert. He studied at the Barcelona School of Architecture.
While at Harvard, Sert established in 1955 an architectural agency together with some associates. They worked on projects all over the country, including office, public, retail and residential buildings. In the neighbourhood of Harvard University Sert designed several of his most famous buildings. Even in that northern locale, some have seen a mediterranean quality in his work.
In 1974, Spanish architectJosepLluisSert completed the Miró Foundation, a museum in Barcelona dedicated to his friend, modern artist Joan Miró.
In 1953 Sert became dean of the faculty of the Graduate School of Design at Harvard University and later founded the practice, Sert Jackson and Associates in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
