Juma Namangani, born Jumaboi Ahmadzhanovitch Khojayev (born in 1969, died 2001), After serving in the Soviet forces in Afghanistan, he fought in the Tajik Civil War with the Islamic forces against the government, and later founded the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan (IMU) which led guerilla attacks from its bases in Tajikistan into Ferghana Valley inUzbekistan, as well as Batken region of Kyrgyzstan.
