Encyclopedia > Jusos

Jungsozialisten in der SPD (Young Socialists in the SPD), generally called Jusos, are the youth organization of the German Social Democratic SPD.

Generally far more left-wing in their approach to current events than their mother party, they tend to criticise leading politicians whatever their affiliation. The Jusos are decidedly socialist in the traditional sense of the word, in the 90s there were even some Marxist factions. The chairman of the Jusos is currently Björn Böhning.

Jusos Berlin - english (1866 words)
We, Jusos in the SPD, stand for another tradition of socialism, for democratic socialism, rooted in the works of Marx and Engels, Liebknecht and Luxembourg, because socialism is for us a current necessity which could seriously enable social and economic alternatives to be realised.
The Jusos aligned with non-parliamentary opposition against the liquidation of the nazi past, the Vietnam war and the emergency laws, and this led to a greater politicalization of the Jusos base which found good grounds to express itself at the 1969 Jusos national congress.
Before it had the chance to step down, the Jusos Federal Committee was expelled (to the extent that the federal vice-president of the Jusos could later be seen seating among the CSU - Social Christian Union - deputies in Parliament) The shift to the left was completed.
