Kuala Lumpur Sentral is the central railway station of Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia. Opened on 15 April2001, it was built to replace the old colonial-era station at Brickfields, which remains open for commuter trains only.
Designed as an intermodal hub, the following lines all connect to KL Sentral:
Technically, Kuala Lumpur Sentral refers to the entire office, hotel, condominium and mall development surrounding the station, while the station itself is known as Stesen Sentral. Phase One of the complex is nearing completion, while Phase Two is targeted for 2010.
The five-level KLSentral Station building is located on 9.3 acres of land.
KLS is linked to the Middle Ring Road and from there to the major expressways and surrounding suburbs; effectively bypassing heavy city center traffic.
KLSentral will have Customs and Immigration counters that will provide the convenience of check-in and check-through facilities allowing passengers to check their bags early.
KLSentral is the largest train station in Southeast Asia.
KLSentral was designed as an intermodal transportation hub.
KLSentral actually refers to the entire 290,000 square metres of development which was built on the former Keretapi Tanah Melayu marshalling yard in Brickfields.
