Kaibara Ekiken (aka Atsunobu) 1630-1714 Japanese Neo-Confucian philosopher and botanist. His scores of writings based on the teachings of Chu Hsi enlarged Confucian ethics to include women and children. He also wrote a seminal study of Japanese plants Yamato honzo.
