Kamaishi (釜石市; -shi) is a city located in Iwate, Japan.


As of 2003, the city has an estimated population of 44,670 and the density of 101.23 persons per km˛. The total area is 441.29 km˛.


The city was founded on May 5, 1937.

KAMAISHI, Iwate -- Propeller blades on three wind-turbine generators in Iwate Prefecture snapped after being exposed to gale-force winds, it was learned Thursday.
Officials said one of the damaged wind turbine generators was located in the Iwate Prefecture city of Tono, and the other two in the town of Otsuchi.
Strong winds were recorded in Iwate Prefecture on Wednesday, with the wind speed in Morioka reaching 31.7 meters per second, a record for February.
