Kaminoyama (上山市; -shi, lit. up mountain) is a city located in Yamagata, Japan.


As of 2003, the city has an estimated population of 36,712 and the density of 152.36 persons per km². The total area is 240.95 km².


The city was founded on October 1, 1954.

Japan is quite literally littered with onsen and bath houses so we decided to take it amongst ourselves to find an onsen and see for ourselves if these stories of therapeutic magic actually existed.
Off we went to Kaminoyama, a town even smaller than Yamagata but was famous for its hot springs.
We had fortunately snagged a map of the city and hopped a train and was there in less than 15 minutes.
