She started her career as the heroine in the tamil movie "karagatakaran"(1989) opposite Ramarajan. It was a movie based based on the tamil rural dance form"karagatam".Due to the popular music of maestro Illayaraja and the comedy duo of Goundamani and Senthil ,this movie went on to become a huge hit catapulating the careers of [[Ramarajan[[,Kanaka,Goundamani and Senthil to the big league.
