Qatzrin (קצרין) the capital of the Golan, Israel. Qatzrin – A jewel of natural beauty and quality of life in the heart of the Golan Heights. Qatzrin offers a view of breathtaking landscapes as far as the eye can see. To the south – a magnificent view of the Kinneret; to the north – Mount Hermon rising up to majestic heights; to the west – the verdant hills of Galilee. Qatzrin was established in 1977 after the government of Israel decided settling and populating the Golan Heights was of prime importance for Israel. In addition, Qatzrin was planned as an urban center that would provide a variety of services to the rural communities and military bases scattered throughout the Golan. Today there are 7,000 people living in Qatzrin. The community was planned to grow into a city of 25,000 residents. A progressive educational system and academic centers that serve the residents of the entire region; thriving industrial plants of international standard; facilities of culture and recreation – in brief, everything that people need to be able to live at a standard of living that is one of the highest in Israel.


Education and Culture in Qatzrin

The academic campus of Qatzrin, currently under construction which is slated to accommodate Ohalo College, the Academic Center, and the Institute for the Study of the Golan Informal Education and Culture. Qatzrin is a major center of tourism in the Golan Heights thanks to the many important historical sites it boasts. The ancient Talmudic village of Qasrin (the source of the name ‘Qatzrin ’) which was destroyed in an earthquake 1300 years ago. The village has a magnificent synagogue, partially reconstructed, and foundations of ancient houses. Museum of Golan Antiquities – A museum that displays the archeological finds uncovered in the Golan and an audio-visual presentation that tells the thrilling story of heroism at Gamla.


Qatzrin is home to the kosher Golan Wineries and the Mei Eden mineral water plant.
