King Kauikeaouli Kamehameha III chose St. Patrick's Day to be his (3045 words)
The name "Kauikeaouli" was given to him to commemorate the miraculous circumstances of his birth -- which is another reason why the date of his birth should have been easily remembered.
Thus Kauikeaouli as sovereign King of an independent nation of Hawai'i exercised self-determination on behalf of his native people and of all Hawai'i's people to move Hawai'i forward toward a modern system of laws with liberty and equality for all.
Even the age-difference between Kauikeaouli and his dearly beloved sister Nahi'ena'ena varies between one year and three years depending on what source is used (brother and sister were deeply in love, and she bore him a child who died in infancy).
