Kawagoe (川越町; -cho) is a town located in Mie District, Mie, Japan.


As of 2003, the town has an estimated population of 12,238 and a density of 1,405.05 persons per km². The total area is 8.71 km².

Mie Prefecture was formed after the Meiji Restoration from the old province of Ise, as well as the smaller provinces of Shima and Iga.
Mie Prefecture forms the eastern part of the Kii Peninsula, and is bordered by Aichi, Gifu, Shiga, Kyoto, Nara, and Wakayama.

In 1872, the Anōtsu prefectural seat moved from Tsu to Yokkaichi, and the prefecture itself was renamed Mie.
The name Mie supposedly was taken from a comment about the region made by Yamato Takeru on his way back from conquering the eastern regions.
