Baxter competed in women's bodybuilding from 1979 to 1986, competing in four IFBB Ms. Olympia competitions between 1982 and 1985. She was inspirational for many up-and-coming female bodybuilders. She was not overly successful in competitions, being deemed inappropriate for general acceptance (too massive) by the public by judges. However, she was extremely popular amongst fans of the sport, winning the Women's Physique Publication "The Best Woman Bodybuilder in the World" poll every year from 1979 to 1982.
