History
The town was founded at the time of construction of Kiev-Baltic railway. Kazatin became a town of the Berdichev district on July 7, 1874. In 1923 Kazatin became the district center of Berdychev okrug. A few years later, the district was included in the Vinnitsa region. Economic Details
A total of 13 railways, 5 industrial, and more than 150 private enterprises build up Kazatin's vivid economy. The reason behind the abundant economic growth is town's unique location on an intersection of major railways. The railroad business acounts for 90% of town's budget income. The food industry is another important source of income. The city council started the City Economic Development project in October 2003 in cooperation with the "Ukraine-USA" foundation.
The town of Pogrebishche is situated on the Khrystynivka - Kazatin rail line; it has 1,800 Jews and 5,000 Christians.
On arrival, the ataman (headman) of the detachment summoned the leaders of the Jewish self-defence force, received them in a friendly manner, and in their presence, hailed all the members of the force, who had not paused in their valiant defence of the town against the units' attacks.
The headquarters of the force accordingly turned in to Petlura's men the poorest weapons; the rest were hidden away, just as planned in advance.
