Encyclopedia > Keio Electric Railway

The Keio Electric Railway (京王電鉄 Keio Dentetsu) is a private railway in Tokyo, Japan. It connects the western suburbs of the city (Chofu, Fuchu, Hachioji, Hino, Inagi, Sagamihara, Tama) with the city center at Shinjuku Station. It does not serve Tokyo Station.

The name "Keio" is a contraction for "Tokyo-Hachioji" (東子).

The Keio Electric Railway and the JR Keiyo Line are separate, and have no stations near each other.

Lines

The Keio network is based around the central Keio Line. Branches from that line include:

  • Keio Dobutsuen Line
  • Keio Inokashira Line
  • Keio Keibajo Line
  • Keio New Line
  • Keio Sagamihara Line
  • Keio Takao Line
