The new launch also marks Kelloggs' efforts to move away from ethnic offerings (in the past it tried to launch local flavours like mango elaichi, coconut kesar and rose under the Mazza series of breakfast cereals) as such local variants of `fusion' cornflakes failed to make an impact on the Indian palate.
Apart from being sceptical about whether Kelloggs will be accepted as a snack brand, the new product is perceived to be a cross between a biscuit and a snack in a different shape and size.
According to industry sources, Kelloggs had set up a separate plant in South-East Asia for its cereal bar business but the unacceptability of the product led it to write off massive losses for the region due to which it had to hastily remove its cereal bars from the Indian market soon after launching them.
