Kenefick is a town located in Liberty County, Texas. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 667.

Kenefick is located at 30°6'22" North, 94°51'8" West (30.106035, -94.852169)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 4.0 km˛ (1.5 mi˛). 3.9 km˛ (1.5 mi˛) of it is land and 0.65% is water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 667 people, 235 households, and 195 families residing in the town. The population density is 169.4/km˛ (437.7/mi˛). There are 255 housing units at an average density of 64.8/km˛ (167.3/mi˛). The racial makeup of the town is 98.05% White, 0.00% African American, 0.30% Native American, 0.30% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.60% from other races, and 0.75% from two or more races. 1.65% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 235 households out of which 38.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 73.2% are married couples living together, 7.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 16.6% are non-families. 11.5% of all households are made up of individuals and 4.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.84 and the average family size is 3.04.


In the town the population is spread out with 28.6% under the age of 18, 6.1% from 18 to 24, 27.6% from 25 to 44, 27.7% from 45 to 64, and 9.9% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 37 years. For every 100 females there are 96.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 99.2 males.


The median income for a household in the town is $47,857, and the median income for a family is $52,083. Males have a median income of $45,481 versus $26,513 for females. The per capita income for the town is $17,146. 8.8% of the population and 8.5% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 7.7% of those under the age of 18 and 11.0% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.

The Kenefick Volunteer Fire Department (KVFD) was founded in 1978 by Jim Adams, Nick Hamleton, Gary Holley, Bob Hurgmueller, Ernie Kaufman, BF Williams, and Mike Vernon.
As a very rural area of Liberty County, Kenefick and its surrounding area were in need of a fire department to respond to emergencies.
